TEC 5309 - Computer Networking (3)


When Offered: Spring. Even-numbered years
An introduction to computer networking technologies is presented. The representation of information by analog and digital electrical signals will be discussed. Methods of modulation, multiplexing, encoding, and the transmission of information along the media will be presented. Networking topologies, protocols, and in particular the OSI reference model will be presented. Software and hardware requirements for the implementation of Local Area Networks (LANs) will be emphasized. In particular, developing the skills needed for installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of networks will be the primary goal of the course.
