SPE 5250 - Teaching Mathematics to Students with Learning Disabilities (3)

This course is the second in a two-course sequence designed to prepare special education candidates to provide evidence-based math instruction across inclusive and self-contained settings for students with disabilities in an MTSS framework. In this course, candidates will be exposed to the relationship between cognitive function and acquisition of mathematical skills for students with learning disabilities in mathematics. In addition, candidates will develop the ability to diagnose math struggles in students with learning disabilities, as well as plan for, carry-out, and monitor interventions at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 level of an MTSS framework. Finally, candidates will learn and practice research-based interventions in the areas of number sense, operations, and fraction concepts, among others.
