General Education Requirements (44 Hours)


Some general education requirements may be double-counted in the major with departmental approval. Please see your advisor for information.

Language Requirements (6-12 Hours)


Completion of 6 semester hours at the *intermediate level or higher

Note: Beginning language course I & II or beginning combination language course are prerequisites for *intermediate level courses.

Language courses 1050 or 1060 may be used in General Education Liberal Studies Experience.

Major Requirements (39 Hours)


2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian. No more than 46 semester hours of English courses may be counted toward the BA Degree.

Professional Writing Courses (9 Hours)


R C 1000  is prerequisite to all ENG and RC courses level 2001 & higher

Senior Capstone and Internship (9 Hours)


Internship - Choose One 6 Hour Option


Option 1: ENG 4900 Internship for 6 hours.

Option 2: ENG 4900 Internship for 3 hours AND 3 hours of ENG 3000 level or above.

Foundation in Literary History (18 Hours)


Honors courses are indicated by section number - 410 on the Schedule of Courses

4000 Level Literature Courses - Choose Two (6 Hours)


3000-4000 Level English Elective - (3 Hours)


Minor Required (12-21 Hours)
