General Education Requirements (44 Hours)


Some general education requirements may be double-counted in the major with departmental approval. Please see your advisor for information.

Major Requirements (73 - 74 Hours)


2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian.

Anthropology Electives (21 hours)

  • 6 hours at 2000 level
  • 6 hours at 3000/4000 level
  • 6 hours at 4000 level
  • 3 hours at any level

Science and Technology Electives (3 Hours)


At least 3 hours from the following disciplines at the 2000 level or higher: AST, BIO, CHE, CS, CSD, ES, FER, GES, GHY, MAT, PH, PHY, STT, TEC. Any course used to meet a General Education requirement may not be used to meet this requirement.

Concentration Requirements (30 Hours)


A minimum of 30 semester hours in a career-oriented multidisciplinary concentration. Core courses will be specified for each concentration with electives chosen with the consent of an assigned department advisor and the department chair. These courses will not appear in DegreeWorks until this contract is completed and submitted to the College Advising & Support Services Hub in I. G. Greer Hall.

Only one 1000-level ANT course may be counted towards the major. Courses must come from at least three different departments. At least 18 hours must be at 3000 level or above.


A copy of this signed concentration must be sent to the College Advising & Support Services Hub in I. G. Greer Hall.

*Minimum grade of “C-” (1.7) required.

Students may not enroll in a course as a capstone if they have already taken the parallel course (e.g., ANT 4250   for ANT 4251 ; ANT 4320   for ANT 4321 ; ANT 4330   for ANT 4331 ; etc.). Students should therefore consult with their advisors before selecting seminars and electives.
