General Education Requirements (44 Hours)

General Education Requirements

Seventeen hours of major requirements may count to fulfill General Education requirements:

Professional Education Requirements (24 Hours)

A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in all Professional Education Courses by Teacher Education majors.

EDU 2000 - Introduction to Learners, Teachers, and Schools (3) +

EDU 3000 - Diverse Learners: Teaching and Learning (3) #

#Prerequisites: EDU 2000 , EDU 2100 , and Admission to Teacher Education. EDU 3000 and EDU 3100 should not be taken concurrently.

NOTE:

To be admitted to the Teacher Education, students must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, completed 45 semester hours, completed criminal background check and successfully completed testing requirements for Reading, Writing and Math areas of the PRAXIS I CORE (or exempt based on SAT or ACT scores). Career and Technical Education Core Requirements (14 Hours)

+ Must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0)

CHE 1101 - Introductory Chemistry I (3) *
CHE 1110 - Introductory Chemistry Laboratory I (1) *
and
CHE 1102 - Introductory Chemistry II (3) *
CHE 1120 - Introductory Chemistry Laboratory II (1) (Gen Ed theme OR Chemistry Connections to Our Changing World) *
or
BIO 1201 - Biology in Society I (3) *
BIO 1202 - Biology in Society II (3) *
BIO 1203 - Biology in Society Laboratory (2) *

Major Courses (44 Hours)

A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) is required in each major course. 18 hours must be taken at Appalachian.

Major Electives (5 Hours)

Other Family and Consumer Sciences content courses approved by advisor (typically courses with ADM, CTE, FCS, INT, and NUT prefixes).

Free Electives (5 Hours)

Note: CHE 1101 /CHE 1110 , CHE 1102 /CHE 1120 OR BIO 1201 /BIO 1202 /BIO 1203 ; NUT 2202 ; and FCS 2103 taken for the major may count toward General Education

A student must have at least a 2.70 grade-point average to be admitted to the teacher education program and must maintain a 2.70 grade-point average overall through student teaching.
