General Education Requirements (44 Hours)

General Education Requirements

Fifteen hours of major requirements may count to fulfill General Education requirements:

Professional Education Requirements (24 Hours)

A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in all Professional Education Courses by Teacher Education majors.

EDU 2000 - Introduction to Learners, Teachers, and Schools (3) +
EDU 2100 - Foundations of Educational Equity (3) +
EDU 3000 - Diverse Learners: Teaching and Learning (3) #
EDU 3100 - Assessment for Learning (3) #
EDU 4900 - Student Teaching (12) [CAP]
+Must be taken prior to admission to Teacher Education
#Prerequisites: EDU 2000 , EDU 2100 , and Admission to Teacher Education. EDU 3000 and EDU 3100 should not be taken concurrently.

NOTE:

To be admitted to the Teacher Education, students must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, completed 45 semester hours, completed criminal background check and successfully completed testing requirements for Reading, Writing and Math areas of the PRAXIS I CORE (or exempt based on SAT or ACT scores). See Admission to Teacher Education . Minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA required for admission to Teacher Education, Student Teaching and graduation.

Foundation Coursework Requirements (7 Hours)

Choose from the Following: Science Inquiry (8 Hours)

Career and Technical Education Core Requirements (17 Hours)

All courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0).

Major Course Requirement (27 Hours)

15 hours in a NC T&I Skill Area +
CTE 3900 - Internship (6 or 9)
(6 Hours required for the major. 9 hours available for DE if needed to reach 50 hours from a senior institution)
TEC Electives (6 hours approved major electives) ++

Note

# Cannot be taken before being admitted to Teacher Education.

Second Academic Concentration (18 Hours)

Total of 18 hours required. (Up to 9 hours General education, major, and / or SAC). Select from the following:

Materials Science
STEM
Sustainable Design and Technology
or other SACs possible when recommended by program coordinator.

Electives (0-2 Hours)

Dependent on selected second academic concentration

Total Required (120 Hours)

A student must have at least a 2.70 grade-point average to be admitted to the teacher education program and must maintain a 2.70 grade-point average overall through student teaching.
