ANT 4320 - Human Evolution (3) When Offered: Fall. Alternate years This course is a comprehensive survey of hominin evolution. The archaeological and fossil record from the past 8 million years will be examined in detail, including paleoclimate research or, “stones and bones.” In addition to studying the evidence for evolution, students will develop critical thinking skills about research paradigms, design, methodology, and interpretive frameworks. Lab exercises will allow students to examine fossil casts using a systems approach that considers structural-functional relationships, competing pressures in evolution, and even misapplication of evolutionary theory. After participating in this course, students will have learned basic human evolutionary anatomy and will also be familiar with key theoretical issues and debates in paleoanthropology. Students who have previously received credit for ANT 4321 may not enroll in or receive credit for ANT 4320. Prerequisite: ANT 2230 .
