HIS 2340 - Modern East Asia (3) When Offered: Spring GEN ED: Historical Studies Designation; Integrative Learning Experience (Theme: “Revolutions: Social and Political”) An introduction to the major themes in modern East Asian history from approximately 1600 to the present with a focus on China, Japan and Korea. Topics include social change and revolution, philosophical/religious traditions (including Confucianism and Buddhism), political/economic innovations (including Liberalism, Communism, Fascism, and Corporatism), imperialism, empire and nation, material culture, the role of women, the Cold War, and globalization.
