MAT 1010 - Introduction to Mathematics (4) When Offered: Fall; Spring; Summer Session GEN ED: Quantitative Literacy A course in mathematical problem solving for students who are not required to take calculus. Emphasis is on the development of students’ quantitative literacy and number sense rather than computational drill. Computational tools such as spreadsheets will be used to solve a variety of real world problems. All sections cover basic consumer statistics and probability, with additional topics drawn from a variety of fields such as art, music, finance, physical or biological science, geometry, cryptology, measurement, and election theory. Not open to students who are enrolled in or have credit for MAT 1020 , MAT 1030 , or MAT 1110 . Students may not receive credit for both MAT 1010 and MAT 1020 . (ND Prerequisite: passing the math placement test or successful completion of MAT 0010 .)
