HCM 5910 - Health Law and Policy (3) When Offered: Fall This course is designed to provide an introduction to the legal, ethical, and political environment of health care. This course will involve thinking critically about the evolution of U.S. Health Policy and the forces that influence health policy. The course will cover a variety of ethical and legal issues facing health care managers including: general contract law, antitrust compliance and litigation, the government regulation of health care, false claims, fraud and abuse, informed consent, hospital and provider individual and corporate negligence, the legal basis for hospital governance, and the principals and basis for health care malpractice insurance. Prerequisite: HCM 5210 or permission of the instructor.
