TEC 3748 - Building Science (3) When Offered: Fall; Spring This course introduces the strategies, assemblies, and materials used to passively manage indoor environmental quality and the integrity of envelope systems. Reinforces typical construction assembly strategies while introducing other high performance approaches. Primary topics include moisture, air, thermal, and vapor control and quantifying thermodynamic impacts. Other considerations include building durability, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and occupant comfort. Students focus on using building diagnostic equipment in the field or designing and detailing building envelope systems. Lecture two hours, laboratory two hours. Prerequisites: MAT 1020 or higher with a minimum grade of “B” (3.0), PHY 1104 with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0) and TEC 2718 with a minimum grade of “C” (2.0).
