C_I 5075 - Advanced Study in Elementary School Science and Assessment (3) When Offered: On Demand Advanced Study in Elementary School Science is designed for candidates to further develop their content knowledge and critically examine existing pedagogical practices. The course focuses on the understanding of scientific concepts and principles; interdisciplinary planning and implementation; infusion of community resources and local funding into the elementary science program; and contemporary issues specific to the teaching, learning, and evaluation of science curricula. Additionally, students will examine the theoretical foundations of assessment and evaluation and investigate research-based assessment practices as it relates to science teaching. They will apply this knowledge to select and design assessments that meet science curriculum goals and elicit quality student work, interpret assessment data, evaluate student learning, and identify implications for teaching.
