BIO 4572 - Virology (3) When Offered: Fall The objective of this course is to introduce students to the principles of virology as related to the structure, biochemistry, replication, pathogenesis and control of viruses. There will be an emphasis on disease processes and the interaction of animal viruses. General topics include the chemical and physical properties of viruses, virus classification, cultivation and assay of viruses, pathogenesis, persistent infections, biotechnology, and viruses as a cause of neoplasia. The students’ analytical and intuitive skills will be challenged by analyzing figures and data from journal articles in class discussions. Lecture three hours. Prerequisite: BIO 2600 . [Dual-listed with BIO 5572.] Dual-listed courses require senior standing; juniors may enroll with permission of the department.
