PHY 3210 - Modern Physics I (3) When Offered: Fall-Spring An introduction to the theories and experiments of 20th-century physics: special relativity; wave-particle duality; atomic structure; and natural and artificial radioactivity. Elementary results from quantum theory will be applied to the solid state and the nucleus. Descriptive treatment of frontier topics such as particle physics, accelerators, and superconductivity. Lecture three hours. Prerequisite: PHY 1151 or corequisite PHY 2010 .
