Global Connections Certificate

The number of hours for the certificate may require prerequisite work due to the amount of coursework required to complete the language due to choice and placement.

Language (3 Hours)


Students should have mastered a foreign language at the intermediate level as indicated by the completion of the 3 hours of the following: (Pre: language at 1040 level or placement test score)

  • Language 1050 Intermediate II level of language (3)
  • Language 2000 or higher (3)

International Experience (Minimum 3 Hours)


Students must participate in an international service-learning program or in a short-term study abroad program in a location relevant to their language of study.

International Content (9 Hours)


No more than 6 hours of non-foreign language coursework taken while completing their International Experience (#2 above) may count towards this requirement. Courses that count in this area include courses from Global Issues, Diversity Studies, Foreign Language, and History. Please consult with the Global Studies focus advisor for other courses.

Community Service


Students must complete at least 40 hours of service or outreach related to diversity issues, multicultural issues, and/or study abroad experiences.

Reflection


Students will document their experiences in a portfolio that will include at least one final reflection paper (6-8 pages) specifically addressing the local and global connections of their experiences. See program director for details.

December grads due date: December 1
May & August grads due date: April 20

Total Required (15 Hours)


Verficiation of completion for Certificate must be sent to the CAS Dean’s Office by the Global Studies Director.
