A student may earn an undergraduate minor in Appalachian Studies by successful completion of an interdisciplinary program of 18 semester hours as follows:

Required: (3 hours)

Select one of the following courses:

A_S 2411 - Appalachia: An Introduction (3) [GenEd: SS]

Core: (9 hours)

Select 9 hours from the following:

Electives: (6 hours)

Complete at least two courses from the following to total a minimum of six hours. Courses listed in Core above may be used here if not used above.

A_S 4110 - Ethnographic Field Study (1-6)
A_S 4900 - Field Experience: Internship (1-6)
ENG 3050 - Studies in Folklore (3)
ENG 4810 - Advanced Folklore (3)
HIS 3575 - Public History: An Introduction to the Field (3)
PLN 4450 - Planning for Sustainable Systems (3)
Other courses with Appalachia as the subject (with the consent of an Appalachian Studies advisor)

Total Required (18 Hours)

A minimum of 9 hours must be ‘in residence,” i.e. courses taken through ASU (can include study abroad, ASU online courses, etc.).
