Biology Major Requirements (67 Hours)
Not including 12 hours counted in General Education, above
2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian.
Biology Core Requirements (8 Hours)
Must be completed before taking any other biology courses
Additional Required Biology Courses (14 Hours)
Pre: BIO 1801 & BIO 1802 required for all additional BIO courses
One of The Following Senior Capstones
Pre: Senior Standing; WID
Ecology, Evolution, Environmental Concentration (38 Hours)
Courses with a BIO prefix in all elective sections, including Other Sciences, must be numbered 2000 and above. (Courses may only meet one requirement. If a course is chosen in one area, it may not be used in another. e.g. If BIO 3314 is used to fulfill an Evolution or Ecology requirement, the course may not also be used to fulfill a Biodiversity requirement.)

Courses from BIO, CHE, PHY, GES or courses listed below may be chosen to bring total in Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Concentration to 38 hours. Additional courses from the following programs may also be approved with permission from the Biology department: Anthropology (ANT), Exercise Science (ES), Geography (GHY), Mathematics (MAT), Philosophy (PHL), Public Health (PH), Psychology (PSY), Sustainable Development (SD), and Statistics (STT).
