Foundations of American Democracy Requirement (3 Hours)


Foundations of American Democracy Requirement  

Three (3) credits of Foundations of American Democracy (FAD) are required for degree completion. Courses that meet this requirement may also be used to meet other major, minor, or General Education requirements.

General Education Requirements (41 Hours)


(COM 2103  or COM 2105  taken for the major may count toward General Education.)

Major Requirements (45 Hours)


An overall 2.0 GPA is required in the major. 18 semester hours must be completed at Appalachian.

  • Junior Writing in the Discipline (WID)
  • Senior Capstone Experience (CAP) must be met.

Major Electives (6 Hours)


  • Choose any courses from the Communication Department course listing (must meet prerequisites)

Minor Required (12-25 Hours)


  • 9 hours of a minor must be completed at Appalachian. Suggested minors include: Art, English, General Business, International Business, Marketing, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology.

Free Electives (9-25 Hours)


To total a minimum of 120 hours for the degree
