When Offered: Spring. Even-numbered years A broad survey of women’s legal place in American history from the colonial period through the fight for the Equal Rights Amendment. Beginning with English common law relative to women, the course will examine United States Constitutional Amendments, Supreme Court decisions, and federal laws that have codified women’s place in American society. The course assumes a view of women as an essential force in history.
