C_I 5830 - Media Literacy (3) When Offered: On Demand The course examines what it means to be literate in the technological world of the twenty‐first century where digital media pervades our daily experiences. Key concepts and principles from the field of media literacy are studied through an examination of movies, advertising, television, journalism and news, the Internet, and social media. Emphasis is placed on understanding media texts, media industries, media narratives, and the form and language of a variety of different media. Students are provided with critical frameworks for analyzing media of all forms as well as with tools and techniques applied in several class projects aimed at deconstructing media messages.
