PHY 5435 - Laboratory Automation (4) When Offered: Spring A rigorous applications-oriented course designed to foster an in-depth understanding of both the hardware and software aspects of laboratory automation. Personal computers are used to control laboratory instruments, collect and analyze data, and plot results. Topics covered include the use of data acquisition and control cards, serial and IEEE-488 interfacing, and coordinated data collection and control. State-of-the-art data acquisition languages are used extensively in the laboratory. Prerequisite: PHY 5330 with a minimum grade of B+ (3.3) and PHY 5735 with a minimum grade of B+ (3.3); or by permission of the instructor. Lecture three hours, laboratory three hours.
