PSY 5810 - Functions and Ethics of the School Psychologist (3)


When Offered: Fall
This foundational course introduces students to the profession of school psychology and reviews critical ethical and professional issues related to school-based practice. Students learn the historical foundations of the field, practice domains and models, current issues and challenges impacting practice, school psychologists’ roles and functions, relevant state and federal laws and regulations, community resources, and relationships with parents, students, and school personnel. Emphasis is placed on working with various student populations encompassing different backgrounds and educational needs. The course is a catalyst for students’ professional identity as a school psychologist.
Prerequisite: Admission to the School Psychology graduate program.
