C I 5550 - Successful Schools for Young Adolescents (3) When Offered: Fall This course is a comprehensive study of the middle school philosophy, the middle school movement, and the essential components of middle level organization and schooling. The course focuses on the developmental characteristics of young adolescents and the implications of those characteristics for middle level schooling. Other topics include: an historical study of elementary schools that include the middle grades, junior high schools, and middle schools; current trends and issues in middle level education; the middle level knowledge base; major organizational issues; the roles of teachers; and the future of middle level education.
