General Education Requirements (44 Hours)
(COM 2105 , and COM 3300 if taken for the major may count toward General Education: Liberal Studies Experience).
Major Requirements (48 Hours)
Students must apply for admission to the Electronic Media/Broadcasting (EM/B) major no later than February 1 for the following fall semester, or no later than September 15 for the following spring semester. Only after a student has been accepted into EM/B can they declare this major.
An overall 2.0 GPA is required in the major. 18 semester hours must be completed at Appalachian.
- Junior Writing in the Discipline (WID)
- Senior Capstone Experience (CAP) must be met
Core Courses (6 Hours)
A 2.0 GPA is required in the core courses
Specializations (12 Hours)
Choose from one of the following
Electronic Media Journalism (12 sh)
Electronic Media Production (12 sh)
Electronic Media Management and Programming (12 sh)
Minor Required (12-25 Hours)
- 9 hours of a minor must be completed at Appalachian
Free Electives (3-22 Hours)
To total a minimum of 120 hours for the degree

Students must apply to be an Electronic Media/Broadcasting major. Once accepted, a student must fill out a “Declaration of Major” form and submit it to the dean’s office for processing.
