General Education Requirements (44 Hours)
CHE 1101 /CHE 1110 & CHE 1102 /CHE 1120 fulfills Science Inquiry. STT 2820 fulfills Quantitative Literacy requirement. PSY 3010 is strongly recommended as a Liberal Studies Experience selection for secondary education majors.
Professional Education Requirements (24 Hours)
A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in all Professional Education Courses by Teacher Education majors.
NOTE:
To be admitted to the Teacher Education, students must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, completed 45 semester hours, completed criminal background check and successfully completed testing requirements for Reading, Writing and Math areas of the PRAXIS I CORE (or exempt based on SAT or ACT scores). See Admission to Teacher Education . Minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA required for admission to Teacher Education, Student Teaching and graduation.

Major Requirements (52-53 Hours)
Not including 12 semester hours already counted in Gen Ed, above
2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian.
Biology Core Requirements (8 Hours)
Must be completed before taking any other biology courses
Additional Required Biology Courses (19-20 Hours)
Pre: BIO 1801 & BIO 1802 required for all additional BIO courses
Required Cognate Courses (37 Hours)
12 semester hours of cognate courses are counted in general ed requirements.
General Science
