General Education Requirements (44 Hours)


CHE 1101 -CHE 1110  and CHE 1102 -CHE 1120  fulfill the Science Inquiry. MAT 1110  fulfills the Quantitative Literacy requirement.

Language Requirements (3 Hours)


Students are required to demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency in a language other than English. Intermediate-level proficiency is demonstrated by successful completion of a 4th-semester language course in one of the following:

Note: Beginning language course I & II or beginning combination language course and intermediate language course I are prerequisites for *intermediate level II course. Placement tests are designed for placement purposes only and a score on this test alone is not sufficient to demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency.

Language courses 1050 or 1060 may be used in General Education Liberal Studies Experience.

 

Major Requirements (46 Hours)


Not including 12 semester hours already counted in General Education Requirements, above

2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian.

Biology Core Requirements (8 Hours)


Must be completed before taking any other biology courses

Additional Required Biology Courses


Choose 17 semester hours in courses numbered 2000 and above. (Pre: BIO 1801  & BIO 1801  for all BIO courses)

At least one course must be Junior Writing [WID] course. One course must be selected from each of the following areas:

(Courses may only meet one requirement. If a course is chosen in one area, it may not be used in another. e.g. If BIO 3314  is used to fulfill an Evolution or Ecology requirement, the course may not also be used to fulfill a Biodiversity requirement.)

BIO 3500  and BIO 4900  may count in the major concentration elective section that is most relevant to the focus of the research/internship. Please contact your department chair/assistant chairperson to seek approval.
