Program Requirements


General Education Requirements (44 Hours)


Some general education requirements may be double-counted in the major with departmental approval. Please see your advisor for information.

Major Requirements (41-45 Hours)


(not including 15 semester hours for science & math and PSY 1200 ; already counted in General Education requirements, above)

2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under major and concentration requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered through Appalachian.

Foundations of Psychological Science (12 Hours)


Choose at least one course from each of the following groups

(PSY 3100  is a prerequisite/co-requisite for each of these courses)

Capstone Course (3 Hours)


Choose at least one course from the following

(PSY 3100  is a prerequisite for each of these courses)

Psychology Elective Courses (Choose 6 Hours)


(PSY 1200  is a prerequisite for each of these courses)

Choose at least 6 hours from courses beyond the requirements in Foundations, Doing Psychology, Applied Psychology, and Capstone Areas above or the following:

Science/Math Requirement (15 Hours)


Any math and science lab courses up to 12 hours can be used in both general education and this requirement. An additional 3 hours must be taken from AST, BIO, CHE, GES, PHY, STT, MAT, or E_S 2040  or E_S 2050 . Classes excluded from the additional hours are STT 1810 , STT 2810 , STT 2820 , MAT 1001 , and MAT 1010 .

Education Studies Concentration (21 Hours)


Minimum of 21 semester hours

Any course used to satisfy a general education requirement cannot be used to satisfy a concentration requirement.

All courses must be from the 2000 level or above.

21 semester hours must come from at least two of the following academic areas or courses: Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education (LIT and SPE prefixes only), Leadership and Educational Studies (RES and FDN prefixes only), Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum (CI prefix), Media, Career Studies, and Leadership Development (MTL prefix only), EDU 2000 , EDU 2100 PSY 2305 , SOC 3360 , S_W 2615 , S_W 2630 , S_W 4270
