MUS 3023 - String Orchestral Techniques and Literature (3) When Offered: Fall. Even-numbered years A survey of the materials and methods for orchestral instruction and leadership. This course is designed for instrumental music education majors planning careers as orchestra directors in grades 6-12. Topics include: philosophical development, logistical organization, and administration of a comprehensive instrumental string music program including appropriate literature. Public school level orchestral literature will be studied in this course.
The course is comprised of both lecture and laboratory components for three credit hours. Prerequisite: admission to the music education degree program and admission to Teacher Education.
