SOC 2070 - Society, Stress, and Mental Health (3) When Offered: Spring GEN ED: Wellness Literacy This course explores the societal origins of stress and mental health problems. Students will examine the larger historical and cultural contexts that influence how we define and treat mental illness, the ways in which social inequalities in access to resources, power, and social status shape exposure and responses to stress, as well as access to mental health treatments. Topics also include societal roles and expectations that affect stress experiences and the meanings that we attach to stressors.
