General Education Requirements (44 Hours)


GES 1101  and GES 1103  fulfill Science Inquiry in general education. MAT 1110  fulfills the Quantitative Literacy requirement.

PSY 3010  will count toward the Liberal Studies Experience general education requirements.

Professional Education Requirements (24 Hours)


A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in all Professional Education Courses by Teacher Education majors.

NOTE:


To be admitted to the Teacher Education, students must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, completed 45 semester hours, completed criminal background check and successfully completed testing requirements for Reading, Writing and Math areas of the PRAXIS I CORE (or exempt based on SAT or ACT scores). See Admission to Teacher Education . Minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA required for admission to Teacher Education, Student Teaching and graduation.

Major Requirements (50 Hours)


Not including 15 hours counted in General Education Requirements, above

2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major department, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian. Since many upper level Geology courses require GES 1101  as a prerequisite, it is highly recommended that students complete this course during their freshman year.

Note


During the senior year, the B.S. Geology Teaching Licensure degree student must take the Praxis II subject area exam: Earth/Space Science (#0570) portion. The score should be reported to Appalachian State University.
