General Education Requirements (44 Hours)


Some General Education requirements may be double-counted in the major with departmental approval. Please see your advisor for information.

Language Requirements (3 Hours)


Students are required to demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency in a language other than English. Intermediate-level proficiency is demonstrated by successful completion of a 4th-semester language course in one of the following:

Note: Beginning language course I & II or beginning combination language course and intermediate language course I are prerequisites for *intermediate level II course. Placement tests are designed for placement purposes only and a score on this test alone is not sufficient to demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency.

Language courses 1050 or 1060 may be used in General Education Liberal Studies Experience.

 

Major Requirements (36 Hours)


2.0 major GPA is required for graduation. Major GPA calculation will include all courses taken in the major discipline, plus any other courses under Major Requirements. Minimum of 18 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill major requirements must be courses offered by Appalachian.

Required Intermediate Courses (6 Hours)


Electives in Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies (6 Hours)


Must be at or above 3000 level

Choose any course from Required Intermediate Courses or Required Advanced Courses that was not used to meet requirements above

Major Electives (9 Hours)


At least 6 hours must be at or above 3000 level

May only use courses not used to meet requirements above

Additional courses with a GWS focus from may be counted with approval from the GWS program director

Minor Required (12-21 Hours)


  • Minimum of 9 semester hours of courses taken to fulfill minor requirements must be courses taken at Appalachian

Electives (16-25 Hours)


Taken to total 120 hours for the degree
