Foundations of American Democracy Requirement
Foundations of American Democracy Requirement Three (3) credits of Foundations of American Democracy (FAD) are required for degree completion. Courses that meet this requirement may also be used to meet other major, minor, or General Education requirements. Professional Education Requirements (24 Hours)
A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in all Professional Education Courses by Teacher Education majors. NOTE:
To be admitted to Teacher Education, students must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, completed 30 semester hours, completed criminal background check and successfully completed testing requirements for Reading, Writing and Math areas of the PRAXIS I CORE (or exempt based on SAT or ACT scores). Refer to the Initial Licensure Teacher Education Student Handbook for complete details related to Teacher Education admission, GPA, edTPA, Student Teaching and testing requirements. Major Requirements (64 Hours)
A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) is required in each ART course for the major. 18 hours must be completed at Appalachian. - Junior Writing in the Discipline
- Senior Capstone Experience must be met
Foundations / Studio Requirements (12 Hours)
Introductory Studio Courses
Choose 15 credit hours from at least four different studios: Intermediate / Advanced Studio Courses
Choose six (6) credit hours from the following: Electives in the Major
Choose seven (7) credit hours from any Introductory or Intermediate / Advanced Studio courses above, if not already taken, and / or from any of the courses listed below: Teacher Licensure
Teacher licensure programs require a minimum of 2.7 cumulative GPA from admission into the teacher education program until graduation, including for admission to student teaching. Total Required (120 Hours)
