Foundations of American Democracy Requirement (3 Hours)

Foundations of American Democracy Requirement

Three (3) credits of Foundations of American Democracy (FAD) are required for degree completion. Courses that meet this requirement may also be used to meet other major, minor, or General Education requirements.

HPE 4420 (Note: 2 hours of HPE 4420 may be counted in General Education)

Professional Education Requirements (24 Hours)

A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) must be earned in all Professional Education Courses by Teacher Education majors.

EDU 2000 - Introduction to Learners, Teachers, and Schools (3) +
EDU 2100 - Social Foundations of Education (3) +
EDU 3000 - Diverse Learners: Teaching and Learning (3) #
EDU 3100 - Assessment for Learning (3) #
EDU 4900 - Student Teaching (12) [CAP]
+Must be taken prior to admission to Teacher Education
#Prerequisites: EDU 2000 , EDU 2100 , and Admission to Teacher Education. EDU 3000 and EDU 3100 should not be taken concurrently.

NOTE:

To be admitted to Teacher Education, students must have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA, completed 30 semester hours, completed criminal background check and successfully completed testing requirements for Reading, Writing and Math areas of the PRAXIS I CORE (or exempt based on SAT or ACT scores). See Admission to Teacher Education . Minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA required for admission to Teacher Education, Student Teaching and graduation.

Major Requirements (42 Hours)

HPE GPA requirement: 2.0 cumulative GPA required for declaration, 2.7 cumulative GPA required for admission into the teacher education program, 2.7 cumulative GPA required for retention in the teacher education program, and 2.7 cumulative and 2.0 major GPA required for graduation.

HPE grade requirements: All HPE majors must earn a minimum grade of “C” (2.0) in each required course in the major.

Minor Required (12-18 Hours)

A minor in Sport Science and Coaching, or another selected minor with permission from the HPE program director, is required.

(Note: Students may double count three (3) hours from HPE 2120 in both the major and Sport Science and Coaching minor.

Electives (0-3 Hours)

As needed to total 120 hours.
