Foundations of American Democracy Requirement
Foundations of American Democracy Requirement Three (3) credits of Foundations of American Democracy (FAD) are required for degree completion. Courses that meet this requirement may also be used to meet other major, minor, or General Education requirements. General Education (41 hours)
Fifteen hours of major requirements fulfill General Education requirements: Elective courses in the major may fulfill up to an additional nine hours of General Education requirements: Major Requirements (91 hours)
18 semester hours must be completed at Appalachian. A laptop computer is required. To declare a BSC major, students must be admitted into the BSC program. To be admitted, students must: - Pass the competency exam with a score of 90 or higher, while those scoring below 90 may be considered for admission depending on resource availability. Students are permitted to take the competency exam only once.
- Earn a minimum grade of “C” (2.0) in BSC 1110, BSC 1210, and BSC 1310. Those who earn below a “C” may be allowed to repeat each course once.
- Junior Writing in the Discipline (WID) and
- Senior Capstone Experience (CAP) must be met.
Foundation Coursework (15 hours)
Any higher-level math, including AP credit, can fulfill the MAT 1020 major requirement. Transfer credit still requires a minimum grade of “B” (3.0), while AP credit requires a minimum score of 4 to be accepted. A minimum grade of “C” (2.0) is required for the other listed courses. Introductory Coursework (21 hours)
Minimum grade of “C” (2.0) in each course required. Intermediate Coursework (9 Hours)
Minimum grade of “C” (2.0) in each course is required. Advanced Coursework (31 hours)
Minimum grade of “C” (2.0) in each course required. Major Electives (15 hours)
